Academy Award–winning American director and screenwriter (1898–1959) best known for his fast-paced, cleverly scripted screwball comedies. ALS in French, signed “Preston,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 7, Dorchester Hotel, London letterhead, March 2, 1954. Sturges writes to Maurice [evidently his cinematographer, Maurice Barry], sending greetings and personal news, mentioning Cannes and the filmmakers René Clair and Marcel Pagnol, and alluding to his effort to make The Millionairess with Katharine [Hepburn]. In very good condition, with two corners of sheet torn off and tape repaired, touching several words and end of signature. R&R COA.
