Description

ALS signed “Frank. Pierce,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, June 27, 1839. Pierce writes from Concord, New Hampshire to W. E. Graves[?] in Boston. In part: “It would afford me much pleasure to do anything that I can consistently to accomplish the object you propose—but I ought at the same time to remark that the list of midshipmen to which this state is entitled under the present apportionment is now full and there would consequently be very little prospect of success until some promotion shall take place….” Intersecting mailing folds (vertical folds to first name), a few small tears (touching a few letters of text; one, touching date, repaired), and mild soiling and handling wear, otherwise fine condition.
