Italian composer (1858–1924) who earned a central place in the operatic pantheon with such repertoire staples as La bohème, Madama Butterfly, and Tosca. ALS in Italian, signed “G. Puccini,” on a 5.5 x 3 Italian government postcard, postmarked Milan and Naples, 1894. Puccini writes to Carlo C— at the publisher Ricordi. In part (translated): “I have sent to your address all three portraits of importance to ...Tetrazzini, Valero, and Pessina. Will you please pass them on?…” The three figures named were the principal singers in the first Neapolitan production of Manon Lescaut, which opened in January of that year.
