Description

Partly printed DS, signed “James Madison” as president and “Jas. Monroe” as secretary of state, one page, 22 x 17.5, January 16, 1816. An appointment for Bernard Henry of Pennsylvania as consul at Gibraltar. The embossed paper seal remains intact at lower left. In good condition, with intersecting folds (vertical fold to “s” of “Madison”; partial separations, one slightly touching “M” of “Monroe,” tape-reinforced from reverse), wrinkling, light toning and faint spotting, and marginal chips and tears. Both signatures are dark and otherwise unaffected. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
