Description

General during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 (1751–1829) who served as Secretary of War under Thomas Jefferson. ALS signed “H. Dearborn,” one page, 7.25 x 9.5, May 26, 1808. Dearborn writes to military agent William Linnard. In full: “You will please to furnish Captain Clement C. Biddle, and Captain Benjamin Walton, with two hundred dollars, each, on account of the contingent expenses of the recruiting service….” Biddle (1784–1855) commanded the Pennsylvania Regiment Light Infantry (Volunteers) during the War of 1812. Matted and framed (without glass) to an overall size of 10.5 x 13. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (vertical fold to last name; a few tiny holes and separations), toning, and light wrinkling. The writing is dark and clear throughout. R&R COA.
