Highly influential French painter (1840–1926) who was among the leading figures of the impressionist movement, which took its name from the title of one of Monet’s works. ALS in French, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, July 10, 1891. Letter to an unidentified gentleman regarding the purchase of a painting. In full, “I received your telegram yesterday and your letter this morning. I can only repeat what I have already written to you, it is impossible for me to make a new concession and that if you want to keep the creation it is at a price of four thousand. If you cannot you have to send it back to me. I am waiting to hear from you.” Monet also adds a short postscript at the bottom of the second page, “I would add that it makes twelve thousand for both paintings. Price offered by you according to principle.” Double matted and framed with a portrait of Monet seated on a bench, as well as a small print of one of his works, to an overall size of 22 x 11.
