Description

AMERICAN HEROES: Original NASA photo signed by all seven astronauts who perished in the CHALLENGER disaster

Color 10 x 8 NASA photo of the fight-suited crew of Mission 51-L, aka the space shuttle Challenger, signed in black felt tip by all seven: Ellison Onizuka, S. Christa McAuliffe, Greg James, Judy Resnik, Mike Smith, Dick Scobee, and Ronald E. McNair. Originally acquired by a Johnson Space Center employee. The Challenger was NASA’s second space shuttle orbiter to be put into service, Columbia being the first. Its maiden flight was on April 4, 1983, and it completed nine missions before breaking apart 73 seconds after the launch of its tenth mission, STS-51-L, on January 28, 1986, killing all seven crew members. Accompanied by a TLS of provenance from the Kennedy Space Center employee who originally obtained the signatures. Two small, very subtle creases between Jarvis’s and Resnik’s surnames, otherwise very fine, fresh condition. An important, sobering remembrance of one of the darkest days in the history of space flight. R&R COA.
