Canadian explorer and ethnologist (1879–1962) best known for his expeditions to the Arctic and for his studies of the native peoples there. Vintage pearl-finish photo trimmed in size to 7.5 x 9.25, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Benjamin Franklin from his old friend Vilhjalmur Stefansson, September 27, 1940.” In good condition, with nickel-sized spot of skinning at lower right (touching arm), slight unevenness to emulsion at bottom edge (touching first name and a few words of inscription), and scattered small creases, dings, and surface marks.
