Description

“Not making any talks or lectures” in the year her book made Hollywood history

American author (1900–1949) whose single novel, Gone with the Wind, became one of the best-sellers of all time and spawned one of the most fabled movies in Hollywood history. She died after being struck by a speeding car at the age of 48. TLS signed “Margaret Mitchell Marsh,” 7 x 11, personal letterhead, January 9, 1939. Mitchell writes to Mr. Whitbeck. In full: “Thank you so much for your invitation to make an address at Schenectady next October. I appreciate the invitation very much, but I must refuse as I am not making any talks or lectures, either of a profesional nature or otherwise….” An extremely faint block of toning from previous matting, and mild handling wear, otherwise fine condition. The signature is particularly clear and dark. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
