“HAVING ENLISTED IN THE WAR ONLY ... IS HEREBY DISCHARGED FROM THE AMERICAN ARMY”: Just months before the Treaty of Paris, WASHINGTON discharges a seven-year veteran of the Revolutionary War

Partly printed DS, signed “Go: Washington,” one page both sides, 8.25 x 10.75, June 6, 1783. A discharge for soldier John Brasbury[?], countersigned by J[ohn] Trumbull, Jr., and by J[ohn] Mills as adjutant. The Treaty of Paris was signed later in the summer, on September 3, and ratified by the Continental Congress in the following January. In good condition, with intersecting folds (associated holes and separations with expert archival reinforcement; vertical fold/slight repaired separation to “Was”); toning and scattered staining, and heavy allover foxing affecting appearance.
