Early glossy 8 x 10 Columbia Pictures publicity photo of the young, smiling star, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Bill—The real champ—Bill Holden.” The “champ” reference may well relate to Holden’s star-making role as a violinist-turned-boxer in the 1939 classic Golden Boy.
