Description

Ruth signs during his Hall of Fame election year

Perhaps the greatest baseball player ever. Ruth was among the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and was the first player to hit over 30, 40, and 50 home runs in one season. His 60 home runs in the 1927 season was the record for 34 years. Bold, crisp vintage fountain pen signature, “Sincerely, Babe Ruth,” at the bottom of a one-page TLS to Ruth from a young fan, 5.5 x 7, June 1, 1936. The letter reads: “Please send me your autograph. I am thirteen years old and my hobby is collecting the autographs of major leaguers. My ambition is to become a major league catcher. If you have an extra photo, I would enjoy adding it to my collection. In case is hard to get a stamp, I am enclosing one. I hope that this letter finds you in good health.” In 1936, Ruth became one of the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, along with Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson. Ruth was also the first of just three players to be elected to the HOF without the customary five-year waiting period. In fine condition, with sheet probably trimmed from a larger size, light toning to one fold, and a few small creases, none affecting the signature. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
