Important Russian composer (1872–1915) best known for his advanced, idiosyncratic tonal language, at once in evidence in his piano sonatas and his symphony subtitled “Poem of Ecstasy.” Scriabin evinced a strong interest in the philosophical and visual aspects, and particularly the “color,” of music, and even invented a color keyboard that was supposed to project specifically colored lights according to musical pitch.
