Sending a pardon for the release of a prisoner

Former slave (1818–1895) who lent his eloquent, powerful voice to the abolitionist movement. ALS signed “Fredk. Douglass,” one lightly lined page, 5 x 8, July 6, 1877. In full: “I herewith transmit to the Warden of the Washington D.C. Jail, the Pardon of Henry Edwards, and request his immediate release.” Vertical fold (touching one letter of last name) and a hint of subtle soiling and toning, otherwise fine, bright condition.
