DIRTY WORDS: Madonna works out the lyrics for a song from the infamous Erotica album

Unsigned handwritten draft lyrics for Madonna’s sexually explicit song “Where Life Begins,” one lightly lined page both sides, 7.25 x 10.5, no date [circa 1991]. The song originally appeared on the 1992 album Erotica, the musical counterpart to the singer’s notorious Sex, a free-form coffee-table book detailing her sexual conquests, fantasies, with “cameos” by the likes of Vanilla Ice and Naomi Campbell. The lyrics, to put it genteelly, express enthusiasm for receiving oral enjoyment from a partner. A few excerpts: “I'd like to direct your attention/To something that needs directing to/A lot of people talk about giving pleasure/But I’d like to talk about my little treasure…. Now what could be better than a home cooked meal/How you want to eat it depends on how you feel/You can eat all you want and you don't get fat/Now where else can you go for a meal like that…. Go down where it’s warm inside/Go down where I cannot hide/Go down where all life begins/Go down that’s were my love is....” The song goes on to mention various acts and body parts in explicit terms; scholars of Madonna’s work will no doubt be interested in the numerous cross-outs, corrections, and emendations made by the singer in translating her experiences into song. In fine condition. An unusual relic from a true pop icon! COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
