Saxophonist, band leader, and composer (1926–1967) whose brilliant improvisatory skills and experimental spirit made him one of the most influential and highly regarded musicians in the history of jazz. After playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk, he led his own groups and made such classic recordings as “Giant Steps,” “My Favorite Things,” and “A Love Supreme.” He died of liver cancer in 1967 at the age of 41. Unsigned music manuscript in pencil on a 9 x 24 sheet of preprinted staff paper, for the several saxophone parts, mostly the 1st alto, as well as the 1st trombone of an unidentified work. The manuscript consists of approximately eleven measures in pencil. Reverse of pages bear a total of eight original pencil sketches, most notably a zebra, and a large male profile portrait. The sheet bears the Coltrane estate’s “2005 Jowcol Music” copyright ink stamp. In fine condition, with central fold, some scattered light creasing and soiling, and expected light handling wear.
