American civil engineer (1837–1926) who completed work on the Brooklyn Bridge after the death of his father, John A. Roebling, in 1869, the result of complications from an injury sustained during construction. ALS signed “W. A. Roebling,” one page, 5 x 6.75, personal letterhead, January 18, 1916. Roebling writes to John. In part: “Here I am in the Hotel Vanderbilt laid up with an attack of indigestion…. Of course, I could not attend the meeting of the J.A.R’s for which I came over—and today I miss the one in Trenton. I will never catch up. Neither was I prepared for the cold snap. This is the 51st anniversary of my first wedding—the thermometer was 18 below 0 in Cold Spring that day…. I am not impaled on the two horns of a dilemma—whether to risk the journey to Trenton or stay here indefinitely….” In very fine condition. R&R COA.
