Description

Mentioning one of Spencer’s movies as she works on The Lion in Winter

ALS signed “Kate,” one page, 8.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 26, 1968. Hepburn writes to “Binkie” [Hugh Beaumont of the Globe Theater in London]. In part: “How perceptive of you—Of course it would have—he’s such a good writer—Bill Rose—Did you see Russians Are Coming—or Mad Mad Mad World—Why don’t you get him to write you one—He’s working in Rome now doing Secret of Santa Vittoria for [Stanley] Kramer…. We’re busy as bugs here—and I will be until June….” This last reference is probably related to the film The Lion in Winter, released in October of the same year, for which Hepburn won her unprecedented third Academy Award (just a year after winning her second). Spencer Tracy starred in It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, directed by Stanley Kramer, in 1963. Accompanied by an unsigned carbon of Beaumont’s reply. Intersecting mailing folds, a few pinholes, and light wrinkles, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
