TLS signed “Noel,” one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, March 28 [no year]. Coward writes from Jamaica to “Bink” [Hugh Beaumont of the Globe Theater in London]. In part: “I was so very pleased with your letter and as for the notice by Mr. Jack Tinker! It may be that I would like him to come and live with me but I cannot be certain about this until I see him, so you had better make discreet enquiries and I will decide later. I not all you say with tremendous interest. I have even made a wicked little joke which must not be repeated The joke is; ‘Paddy, the next best thing!’…. I have just finished a new full length play for myself. It has one set and four characters. It is a comedy but with serious moments. It is strong I think and I do so hope you will like it. I am now planning to do two long-short plays to go with it so that I can have my beloved double bill…. The complete comedy which is called ‘A Song at Twilight’ needs, apart from me, either Maggie Leighton or Irene Worth, or indeed both, because the second woman’s part is almost as good as the first…. I arrive in London on May 2nd and start shooting the film on May 5th. It is a brief but effective part, only about a week’s work. I play an elderly, drunk, queer, masochist and I wish for no cracks about type-casting!…” In good condition, with wrinkles, tears (lightly touching a few words of text), light soiling and toning, and creases (one to first letter of signature).
