Military officer and surgeon who was a veteran of the Washita Campaign and was present in 1869 when Stone Forehead warned Custer that if he ever made war on the Cheyenne again, Custer and his men would be killed. In full: “The enclosed is the best I can do for the family of our dear old & good f[rien]d Col. McClure. It is quite possible that Major S. O. L. Potter, late surgeon U.S. Vols. can give some information that will be of value. Major Potter’s address can be obtained at the office of the Surgeon Genl.
