Description

Crow scout (circa 1858–1929) who was assigned to Custer’s 7th Cavalry as that unit prepared to depart in pursuit of the Lakota and Cheyenne who were encamped near Little Bighorn. White-Man-Runs-Him left vivid accounts of the fateful battle and, widely interviewed in later years, became something of a celebrity. Scarce vintage 3.25 x 5.25 postcard photo captioned “White-Man-Runs-Him, the last of the four famous Crow Scouts attached to the command of Major General George A. Custer at the Battle of the Little Big Horn,” “signed” with his inked thumbprint at upper left. Framed and matted with an enlargement of the same photo to an overall size of 14.25 x 15.5. The reverse of the frame bears a handwritten authentication by the Crow tribe historian Dr. Joe Medicine Crow. Small corner bend at lower left, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
