Early DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 17, 1935. An agreement wherein RKO allows Grable to make personal appearances with Bert Wheeler in Chicago, and that her contract will be suspended until her return. Grable, then just 18, had signed with RKO in 1932 after making a handful of pictures (with the assistance of her mother, who lied about her daughter’s age). In the year before signing the present document, Grable landed a part in the Oscar-winning Astaire-Rogers musical The Gay Divorcée, as well as one of her first substantial roles, in By Your Leave. The document has been countersigned by Grable’s mother, Lillian Grable. Accompanied by a lovely vintage glossy 10 x 13 of a young yet glamorous Grable, the reverse bearing two Paramount Studio stamps (one including her name). The document is very good, with staple holes to top margin of document and signature on the light side, but fully legible; the photo is fine, with a few scattered dings and marginal creases. R&R COA.
