ALS, two pages, 4.25 x 7, Gad’s Hill Place letterhead, October 27, 1867. Dickens writes to K. Joyce Percival in Belgrave Street, King’s Cross. In full: “I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your obliging letter, and to thank you for your acceptable expressions of goodwill. The short interval between this time and my going to Liverpool, is already devoted to so many engagements in so many places, that I am powerless to make any new appointment; but I am not the less sensible of the interest you express in my proceedings. Referring to that part of your letter which informs me of Mr. Manockjie C—’s intention to honour the dinner that is to be given to me on Saturday with his presence, I may add that I mentioned his wish to beg a ticket and secure a good place, to the Honorary Secretary. You will readily understand that I have no part in the arrangements….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Dickens’s hand. Both the second page of the letter and the envelope have been expertly inlaid to larger sheets. Mild wrinkling, soiling, and handling wear, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
