Description

Distinguished author (1811–1896) whose epochal 1852 novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin brought the issue of slavery to the fore of American consciousness and became one of the classics of 19th-century literature. ALS signed “H. B. Stowe,” one faintly lined page, 4.75 x 7, May 8 [another hand dating the letter in pencil 1872]. Stowe writes from Hartford to Mrs. Osgood. In part: “I had supposed that I should pass through Boston about the 9th and wrote you to that effect. But we are going another route and should take Boston on our return probably about the 20 or 21 … at which time our business matters can be adjusted…. There [are] some matters I should like to discuss with you….” In good condition, with intersecting folds (partial and complete separations with tape repairs to reverse), light toning to bottom edge (touching signature) and light soiling and handling wear.
