Confederate military officer (1802–1888). After joining the Confederate Army in 1861, Trimble sustained a serious injury to his leg at the Second Battle of Bull Run. As one of the leaders of Pickett’s Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg, he received another injury to same leg, which had to be amputated. Following the war, Trimble resumed his career as a railroad construction engineer. ALS signed “I. R. Trimble,” one page, 7.75 x 10, December 30. Trimble writes to Dr. Beer[?]. In part: “We (our co.) have purchased some extensive wood land in Virginia…. We [will] employ some one competent to examine the records of Richmond County…. We want the information by the 10th Jany….” In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold just touching “I”), otherwise fine, bright condition. R&R COA.
