Unusual official Israeli Vice-Consul appointment to Great Britain

Jewish chemist and statesman (1874–1952) who helped secure the Balfour Declaration of 1917, served as President of the World Zionist Organization, and became the first President of Israel. DS, in French, signed “Ch. Weizmann,” one page, 24.5 x 17.25, May 17, 1950. Document petitioning and requesting that King George VI recognize the appointment of Haim Raphael to Vice-Consul of Israel in London, to exercise in conformity with the law the interests and protection of Israeli citizens. It is requested that King George VI and all authorities assure the free exercise of these functions as well as the pleasure of all privileges, and agree to provide assistance and protection in all circumstances. Signed at the conclusion by Weizmann, and countersigned by Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett (Shertok). Paper loss to top and bottom edge, and moderate staining to large left margin, otherwise fine condition.
