Description

Featured in a documentary on the “Fabulous Age of Hollywood Musicals”

Iconic director and choreographer (1895–1976) whose lavish, elaborate dance numbers defined the look of movie musicals in the 1930s and 1940s. ALS signed “Buz,” one page both sides, 7 x 10.25, personal letterhead, November 27, 1963. Berkeley writes to “Gen.” In part: “What news from [Curt Jurgens]? Have been holding off from this end before I make any contacts from his end. Here are some of the possibilities I have thought of—what do you think? Alfred Drake—Anthony Quinn; Jason Roberts Jr.—Fernando Lamas; Caesar Romero—Lawrence Harvey. And I still think with a little wheeling and dealing we could get Paul Henreid…. I have a big article coming out about me the end of the week by Hal Humphries, the nationally known syndicated T.V. columnist…. Tune in on NBC this Monday night Dec. 2nd. A Wolper Documentary Production on the ‘Fabulous Age of Hollywood Musicals.’ Joseph Cotton [sic] is the narrator, and they feature clips from many of my musicals and also feature me—(look quick and you will see me in one or two of the shots). Boy—they sure gave me a terrific plug!….” In fine condition. R&R COA.
