Praising an organization for its efforts to “diffuse sound morality & useful information”

American politician (1782–1852), much esteemed for his eloquence as an orator, who was a longtime member of Congress and Secretary of State under Harrison and Tyler. LS signed “Danl. Webster,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, October 27, 1924. Webster writes from Boston to the Phi Gamma Alpha Society of Hamilton College. In part: “I accept with pleasure the honour conferred upon me by the society which you represent. The objects of your association are such as meet my entire approbation. You cannot better promote, either your own happiness, or that of your country, than by endeavoring to diffuse sound morality & useful information throughout its whole extent. That your efforts for this purpose may be abundantly successful is my earnest hope….” intersecting mailing folds (vertical fold to first letter of signature, trimming to bottom margin, and light wrinkling and handling wear, otherwise fine condition.
