Scarce TLS, one page, 7 x 10, EMI Records Ltd. letterhead, June 16, 1965. Letter to a fan in Philadelphia. In full, “Thank you so much for your letter and for all your kind remarks. I am enclosing some photographs for your friends - sorry for the delay but I had to have additional copies printed up. On ‘Yes It Is’ I am not playing the oboe but do play the organ.” Matted and framed with a glossy signed photo of Martin from his days with the Beatles, signed and inscribed in blue felt tip, “Best wishes Cheryl, George Martin,” to an overall size of 17.5 x 14.5. Yes It Is was a 1965 Beatles single credited to John Lennon and Paul McCartney (though written almost entirely by Lennon) which was first released as the B-side to Ticket to Ride. It features some of The Beatles’ most complex and dissonant three-part vocal harmonies and showcases George Harrison’s early use of pedal tone guitar. Over the course of an arduous, five hour recording session, the Beatles attempted fourteen takes of the basic track before perfecting it, more than any other song they recorded in 1965. In very good condition, with horizontal mailing fold through last name of signature, and some staining and surface loss to top right corner. R&R COA.
