Interesting AMQS titled “Melodie a motivy” [Melodies and motives], signed “A. Dvorák,” one page, 8 x 5, no date [circa 1890s]. The single-staff quotation, approximately 34 measures in length and marked “Andante” (and later, “Adagio mart[?]”), is written on the treble clef and includes a few suggestions for harmonies. We were unable to identify any works directly related to the sketches, which Dvorák evidently never developed. Accompanied by an original 1947 Parke-Bernet catalogue entry for the same item, wherein it is described as a “fine specimen.” Mild uniform toning, otherwise fine, clean condition. Rare and most handsome for display! (We gratefully acknowledge the assistance of noted Dvorák expert Dr. Alan Houtchens of Texas A&M University in cataloguing this item.) Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
