Russian critic, editor, and writer (1882–1969) best known for his popular children’s poetry. ALS, one lightly lined page, 5.5 x 7.75, March 8, 1955. Chukovsky writes to Sergey Alexeyevich on the death of his own wife. In part (translated): “I still cannot recover. I visit her grave every day and every day the pain of the loss is stronger. When they praise me as a man of letters, I am always really surprised…. I thank you endlessly for expressing your sympathy, because I’ve learned from my own experience that it would be even more bitter, more depressing, if not for the telegrams and letters of friends, known and unknown….” Accompanied by the original pictorial mailing envelope addressed in Chukovsky’s hand and bearing his return name and address. Light intersecting mailing folds, otherwise fine, clean condition. R&R COA.
