Original “Reportrait” of Belafonte by artist George Haessler, comprising a composite stippled-ink portrait with handwritten contributions from the singer/actor, on an off-white 13.75 x 16.75 sheet, signed in red ink “Harry Belafonte on ‘Odds Against Tomorrow,’ Oct. 15, 1959.” Belafonte writes on various aspects of music and entertainment. Some excerpts: “To understand about the folk art is to understand all about life…. [On producing] Wish I knew another way of doing it…. [On Mark Twain] I wonder where American literature would be without him?… [On Pushkin] Very few things in life have so driven and fascinated me as the life and works of Pushkin….” The sheet is also signed and dated by Haessler at lower left. A touch of mild soiling and glue stains faintly showing through margins from reverse, otherwise fine condition. Striking for display! R&R COA.
