Highly esteemed British admiral (1758–1805) best known for his participation in the Napoleonic Wars, during which, in the Battle of Trafalgar, he lost his life. ALS signed “Nelson & Bronte,” one page, 7.5 x 9, June 18, 1802. Letter to a gentleman who inquired about getting his son a position on a ship. In full, “I am now so entirely separated from the service that I do not know what ships may be kept in commission but if your son will point out any ship if I know the Captain I will recommend him with much pleasure for I shall always feel happy in giving attention to my partner’s friends.” Integral second page bears a handwritten address panel, addressed to “Rev: Mr. Amyes,” with a Meron Place return address and signed again, “Nelson & Bronte.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, scattered toning and soiling to address panel, and some scattered creases and wrinkles. Crisply penned and bold signature, plus a second signature and naval content, make this a nice addition to any collection. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
