Popular silent-era screen comedian (1869–1940) whose most distinctive feature was his crossed eyes, which were reportedly insured against uncrossing by Lloyd’s of London. Vintage oversized linen-finish photo trimmed to an approximate size of 9 x 11.5, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To my pal Ernie, Best wishes, Ben Turpin.” In good condition, with trimming as noted (touching two words of inscription), two 1″ edge tears (one to hat, one to shoulder), light silvering, creases (horiztonal crease touching inscription). Many of the faults could easily be minimized with proper matting and framing for an appealing presentation. R&R COA.
