TLS signed “Peggy Mitchell Marsh,” one page trimmed to 7 x 7.25, personal letterhead, August 14, 1936. Mitchell writes to “Doctor Boland.” In full: “Thank you for the letter from Dr. Scudder. I enjoyed reading it and it made me proud to think that the medical profession, in part at least, liked ‘Gone with the Wind.’ I must confess that I get nervous when I learn that any doctor is reading the book. I hope the profession will look with tolerance on the medicine and surgery I practice between its covers. I did a lot of research in ‘The Medical and Surgical Records of the War of the Rebellion’ and in many old medical books. But still doctors have such keen eyes for errors.” Accompanied by a 1949 TLS from Marsh to Boland, mentioning the redecoration of her house and apologizing for returning a book that had become spotted, bearing the secretarial signature “Peggy.” A touch of mild wrinkling, otherwise fine condition.
