Description

His most famous sitter?

TLS, one page, 5.75 x 7.75, personal letterhead, February 28, 1975. Rockwell writes to Mrs. Tuttle. In full: “In answer to your letter, some time ago I started a picture of Brady photographing Lincoln. I have a very heavy schedule, but, if and when it is finished, it is sold. Whether or not there will be prints I don’t know, but I suggest you drop me a note in six months or so. Then I may be better informed.” Rockwell indeed finished the work, titled “Abraham Lincoln and Mathew Brady,” which was ultimately reproduced as a print—and that’s the rest of the story. In very fine condition. R&R COA.
