American songwriting duo. They are most famous for creating a string of immensely popular Broadway musicals in the 1940s and 1950s, during what is considered the golden age of the medium. Five of their shows were outstanding successes: Oklahoma!; Carousel; South Pacific; The King and I; and The Sound of Music. Among the many accolades they garnered were thirty-four Tony Awards; fifteen Academy Awards; two Pulitzer Prizes; two Grammy Awards; and two Emmy Awards. Two items: DS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, no date. Signed on the second page in blue ballpoint by Richard Rodgers, signing as president of Rodgers and Hammerstein Pictures, Inc; and a DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, dated June 29, 1954, informing Loew’s Incorporated of the addition of a second name authorized to request facilities and equipment regarding the production of Oklahoma.
