Saxophonist, band leader, and composer (1926–1967) whose brilliant improvisatory skills and experimental spirit made him one of the most influential and highly regarded musicians in the history of jazz. After playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk, he led his own groups and made such classic recordings as “Giant Steps,” “My Favorite Things,” and “A Love Supreme.” He died of liver cancer in 1967 at the age of 41. Rare vintage glossy 8 x 10 Atlantic Records promotional photo of Coltrane holding his saxophone, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, “To my friend Lillian, may God bless you & make your life a happy one. Sincerely, John Coltrane.” In good condition, with skipping to several letters of signature due to uneven ink flow, scattered creases and surface marks, light skipping to portions of inscription, small tear to bottom edge. Despite the uneven ink flow, all of the writing is against a light background, making it clearly visible. Signed images of Coltrane are extremely scarce. COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA..
