ALS, one lightly lined page, 5.75 x 9, Waldemere, Bridgeport letterhead, July 31, 1888. Barnum writes to “Fessenden.” In part: “You know the history of Dr. E. B. Middlebrook’s & W. K. Seeley’s misunderstandings sixteen years ago. The Doctor is now about 75 years old & naturally wants to come back to his old home. Seeley you know can’t be sensitive on that subject. Many friends of both parties desire you would lay the case before the acting judge & get the obstruction removed. I really wish it might be done & hope you will see it in the same light.” Vertical fold (touching first letter of signature; tiny edge separation) and a hint of mild soiling, otherwise fine condition.
