Highly regarded American actor (1918–1981) who won the 1954 Academy Award for Best Actor in Stalag 17 and who delivered particularly memorable performances in such classics as Sunset Boulevard and Network. Holden expired at the age of 63 when, suffering a fall and gashing his head while intoxicated, he bled to death.
