Description

Author, suffragette, dramatist, poet, and biographer (1819–1910), best remembered as the lyricist of Battle Hymn of the Republic. ALS signed “Julia Howe,” one page, 4.5 x 7, no date. Ward politely cancels and engagement. In part, “I am very sorry to find that I cannot go with you to the theatre tomorrow evening. It is quite a disappointment to me…Pray let me know if Mrs. Dana and yourself will come to tea - it will give me great pleasure to see you both.” In very good condition, with pencil notations to top, intersecting folds, and some light soiling to beginning portion of signature.
