Description

No politics for the painter of presidents: “I enjoyed painting ... Reagan, Nixon, Kennedy and Humphrey ... but ... I feel I should stick to painting”

TLS, one page, 5.75 x 7.5, personal letterhead, January 6, 1976. Rockwell writes to Mr. Zimet. In full: “It was very kind of you to send the copy of The People’s Almanac. Mrs. Rockwell and I both thank you very much. As to your question about Reagan, Nixon, Kennedy and Humphrey, I enjoyed painting all of the them and they all had great achievements, which I did my best to express, but I am not particularly politically minded and I feel I should stick to painting.” Light intersecting folds (vertical fold through one letter of first name) and a few marginal smudges and small spots, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
