Description

Swinger: Rare signed photo of Sharon Tate in her silver-screen debut

Promising American actress (born 1943) and wife of director Roman Polanski who was propelled into infamy when she was murdered by the Manson Family, at the age of 26, in the notorious killing spree that shook the nation in the summer of 1969. Very rare glossy 8 x 10 photo, an original publicity still from the 1967 film Don’t Make Waves, signed and inscribed in blue felt tip, “To Alan, Sharon Tate.” Though Don’t Make Waves was the third of the films produced starring Tate, it was the first to be released and is generally regarded as her screen debut. Though billed third under stars Tony Curtis and Claudia Cardinale, Tate and her Waves character, “Malibu,” earned a permanent place in pop-culture history as the direct inspiration for Mattel’s enormously popular “Malibu Barbie” doll. Some light marginal staining (just touching background at top edge; easily matted out), small, light corner bends, a few scattered dings and surface marks, and slightly indistinct contrast of signature against busy background, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
