Description

British general in America during the Revolution. Although he defeated George Washington in a number of battles, he could not force a surrender and returned to England in 1778. DS, signed “W. Howe,” one page, 8 x 13, Office of Ordinance letterhead, May 14, 1790. Document addressed to the Captain of the Valiant, causing Benjamin Vanderbaige to be entered on board the H. M. S. Valiant as Armourer. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, light edge creasing, and some scattered light toning. R&R COA.
