Baseball executive who served as the founder and first president of the American League. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 as one of its charter members. DS, signed “B. B. Johnson,” two pages both sides, 8.5 x 11, American League of Professional Baseball Clubs letterhead, February 28, 1922. Uniform Player’s contract between the American Baseball Club of Philadelphia and Lawton Witt of Massachusetts, for one year at a salary of $4000. Signed on the docket in black ink by Johnson, and signed on the reverse of the first page by Witt, Robert Schroeder, and Thomas Shibe. In very good condition, with creasing and wrinkling to both pages, lightly affecting Johnson’s signature, small separations along document folds, and a light shade of toning.
