Description

Distinguished American poet (1807–1882) who produced such timeless classics as “Paul Revere’s Ride,” “The Song of Hiawatha,” and “Evangeline.” He was the first American honored with a sculpted likeness in the “Poet’s Corner” of Westminster Abbey. ALS signed “Henry W. Longfellow,” one page, 4.5 x 7.25, May 22, 1881. Letter to a woman granting permission to use his poem entitled Day Is Done. In full, “It gives me pleasure to comply with your request on condition that you make no change in the words of my poem.” Accompanied by an envelope with “Permission to use poem ‘Day Is Done’ from Henry W. Longfellow 1881,” written on the front in another hand. In fine condition, with horizontal fold affecting several letters in signature. R&R COA.
