Description

Scarce ALS from the famed multimillion-dollar artist: “All the catalogues sold out in the first 3 or 4 days”

Important British painter (1909–1992) best known for his grotesque, sometimes violent imagery often incorporating flayed human figures. Scarce ALS, one onionskin page both sides, 8 x 10, no date. Bacon writes to Miss Westcott. In part: “Thank you very much for your letter. I am terribly sorry I have no catalogues, they were all sold and the gallery has none at all, also I seem to have no photographs—but there is a small book coming out in about 2 months…. in a series published by Metheun on British painters today. I am sorry not to be able to be more helpful—for some reason all the catalogues sold out in the first 3 or 4 days.” Intersecting mailing folds, a few tiny marginal spots, and light show-through due to nature of materials, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
