Description

On astrology and his own artwork: “I have 3 planets in conjunction ... Still signing my name ... to lithographs from Tokyo”

Author (1891–1980) best known for such sexually charged classics as Tropic of Cancer and the Rosy Crucifixion trilogy. Though his writings were long banned in the U.S. and elsewhere, he has since come to be recognized as one of the major figures of twentieth-century literature. His career and relationship with writer Anaïs Nin were dramatized in the 1990 film Henry & June. Two items: ALS, signed “Henry,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, September 1, 1979. Miller writes to Irv. In part: “In one of my mails to you I believe I enclosed a letter from a Dave C— in Minneapolis. He works for P.O. there … and P.O. has a small library for employees, to which he contributed about 8 or 9 of my books. Sounds like a good guy for Stroker. About your horoscope. I am waiting for a woman down South to do Brenda’s. Due any day now. Then I’ll send your date. Great you’re a Scorpio—so is Brenda, Val my daughter and Hoki, my ex-Japanese wife. You are one of us. I have 3 planets in conjunction there—Uranus, Mars and the Moon. Quite a conjunction! Still signing my name—today to lithographs from Tokyo. Did I ever send you any of the recent ones—all done in 1950’s!… That Moody in Tennessee sure is a pest and a nosy one to boot….” Also included is a color postcard reproduction of one of Miller’s paintings, signed on the reverse in black felt tip. In fine condition, with light smudge to signature of letter from water spot and tiny marginal chip. R&R COA.
