Price of fame: Hepburn writes of the surgery to repair her shoulder after shooting On Golden Pond

ALS signed “Kate,” two pages, 6 x 8, personal letterhead, no date, but envelope postmarked November 10, 1982. Letter to Emil Lavigne and his wife. Lavigne was a make-up artist at MGM for more than 50 years, working on The Wizard of Oz and more than 100 films. “Had to have my shoulder operated on again - Tore it again - The rotator cuff - because I went to work 4 weeks after the first operation (Golden Pond) - Well the Dr. warned me but they were so anxious to get going…any way I was able to play tennis but couldn't sit at a table & lift a coffee pot…now too frail to move…". Hepburn adds a postscript followed by "Silly newspapers - Always wrong." Accompanied by the original handwritten transmittal envelope, addressed in Hepburn’s hand. In very fine condition. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
