Unsigned address leaf in Washington’s hand, 9.75 x 7.5 overall, reading in full: “Wakelin Welch Esq. & Son, Merchant, London.” A later pencil notation on the reverse states that the item was originally attached to a letter dated 1786. In the published reference The Writings of Washington, one of several letters from that year has Washington reporting that “Mrs. Washington is well pleased” with a gold and diamond watch he ordered from Wakelin Welch. Accompanied by several transcript pages of Washington’s correspondence with Wakelin Welch and a 1991 letter from the Guildhall Library in London related to research on the firm. In very good condition, with wrinkling and light folds touching writing, small separations and tears, and light scattered soiling. The actual address panel, is clearly penned and mostly unaffected. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
